Representing the Atheist Side of the Religion Debate in the Armed Forces

Turns out that Glen Doherty, Navy SEAL killed with three others in Benghazi on 9/11, was on the board of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Lawrence Wilkerson, the man who wrote this post, in the European edition of the Stars and Stripes, replaced Glen on that board after Glen’s death.

Since Glen was willing to give up his life for freedom, he has definitely earned the right to have Christians listen to his case. This man who replaced him puts it pretty eloquently. There have been some pretty hateful Christians trying to force conversions among the heathen in the Armed Forces.

Being like Torquemada in the Inquisition, as he puts it.

Ouch! Remember, my brothers and sisters, Christ never forced anyone to come to Him. And, in fact, if the Holy Spirit is not actively wooing a person at the time we witness to him/her, we can’t do a thing to move that person one step closer to conversion.

Conversion is God’s work. We are just the midwife for the birth . . .
